Gibson Les Paul Special Doublecut 1996

This is a Gibson Les Paul Special Doublecut, dating from 1996, considered to be a period of 'good wood' in Gibson's history. The guitar is still in the Gibson catalogue, although the current version has some material differences to this version, which many consider to be downgrades. 

The Doublecut shape is an attractive, symmetrical alternative to the more common singlecut shape found on the Standard models. It looks very striking in the TV Yellow finish.

Perhaps the main reason why this guitar has remained in the Gibson catalogue for so long is the deployment of P90 single-coil pickups in a mahogany-bodied guitar. This gives the instrument a very warm tonal palette, particularly suited to blue-rock, but also other genres.

The guitar is in very good condition. The electrics appear to be original and the controls operate noiselessly. The saddles and control knobs are new. The finish on the Gibson headstock logo had delaminated (a common issue with Gibsons of this era) and has been relacquered to prevent damage to to the logo. We have not sought to make this look new - rather to rewind the checking and delamination by a few years. The frets are levelled, recrowned and polished, so the guitar plays sweetly with a low action. The truss rod operates as it should.

This guitar ships in a Hiscox Liteflite case, which is a good fit for the guitar, and in very good condition.
